About Us

Our Story

The Mighty Relics began when my neighbor and friend Bill Smith (2nd from right) asked me if I was finally ready to get back to playing in a working Rock and Roll Band. He said he knew of another musician named Bill Lorentz (2nd from left). We soon added Bobby Aligan on drums, and in 2015, became the founding members. We played our first gig on June 13, 2016 in Salinas. - by Junior Lucido

The Evolution

Needing a pretty voice for a trio at a garden benefit in Carmel Valley, Bill Smith thought it would be great for my wife Vickie to sing with us. We soon realized she was the female sound our band was missing. Her schedule needed to be cleared before we could officially make the announcement that she is now a member of The Mighty Relics.

The Expansion

While working on some additional songs with our new female singer, we had an opportunity to play a promotional show at The Press Club. Bobby Aligan left the band, and was quickly replaced by Bill Kucher (hidden under the banner). And we were also ready to add new players to help us "round-out" our sound. We got Alan Smith on keyboards.

The Next Iteration

A Saxophone and a Voice

With Alan Smith moving to bass guitar for most of the tunes (after the departure of Bill Lorentz), we wanted to add a saxophone to the music mix. Vickie knew a talented young musician named Paul Dunsmoor , who could also play guitar and bass. The versatility of the players gives our band an opportunity to expand our repertoire. As luck would have it, only a chance meeting with Alison Rooker (a long-lost friend from the old days) would result in adding  another female voice to our rapidly growing ensemble. The band is now beginning to find its way, and its sound.
